Al Capone
Al Capone was born in 1899 to an Italian immigrant family. He quit school after the sixth grade and promptly was accepted into a street gang. At that time the street gang was led by Johnny Torrio. Around the year 1920 Torrio summoned Al to join him in Chicago as Torrio had become a high ranking mobster in the Colosimo mob. Capone killed Colosimo at Torrio's request and Torrio rose to the head of the mob. As Torrio's health waned away. Capone was given authority over the mob. He built an empire of crime in Chicago, running everything from bootlegging to prostitution. The most notorious crime to be committed under Capone's leader ship was the Valentine's day massacre. Capone's mobsters approached a garage full of rival gang members and they entered the garage dressed as cops and proceeded to gun down every rival gang member in the garage. Eventually Capone was sentenced to 11 years in prison on charges of tax evasion. He became very unhealthy during his stay in prison. After his release from prison Capone's mental and physical state were very poor. He was suffering from a late stage of syphilis and he eventually died from a combination of this and pneumonia.
In my opinion negative ambition is very closely related to selfish ambition. Think about all the people throughout history who have displayed positive ambition. How many of those people were ambitious only to benefit themselves? Not very many. Now think about some people who have displayed negative ambition. How many of them were ambitious only for personal gain? A lot of people, am I right or am I right? Capone simply wanted to gain money and power, and he did exactly that. He murdered many people to rise to the top and he gained an estimated $100,000,000 + through illegal activities. I'd say he showed plenty negative ambition. He had no boundaries or limits. He obviously had a severely lacking set of morals, and he was doing what he did to benefit himself. That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. So, if you are a very ambitious person be sure to check the reasons for what you do, that way you don't end up as the most infamous mobster of all time.
The current leader of the mob is a direct descendant from Capone, Mrs. Hake.
